The Power Team
The Power Team, by Sharon Mazer was very interesting. It was a lot different from anything we read in this class, it was more in depth and harder to read than the usual class story. It dealt with Christianity and the evangelical crusades. She talks a lot about this guy named John Jacobs who runs the crusade. He and his group that does it are all body builders. They have really big muscles and say that Jesus gives them the strength to break through things like ice, cement blocks, and even "the devils handcuffs." She talks about how this is all a show they put on to raise money, and its all fake so they shouldn't say its because of god. I believe there are a lot of different religious scams out there. In my white collar crime class we learned how religious scams take more money from the public than anyone, also they tend to go after the old and young because they are delicate and will fall for anything. I think that things like this are okay, if they really do help people with their problems. For example the guy talks about saving a teenager from committing suicide. That's something that is very helpful. But when they take lots of money from people, and use different tactics like asking his little daughter to ask for money, that's not right. Overall i think this evangelical crusade is more on the scam side than for the better good. They take so much money from people and they cheat at what they do, that's not ethical.
